Dorothy S. Kier

Dorothy S. Kier, age 90, of Sabula, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will take place in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Memorials may be given the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula.
Dorothy was born on February 27, 1923, the daughter of James M. and Sandra S. (Warren) Carter in Selfridge Field, Michigan. She was raised by her mother’s twin Warren Royal Warren. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1941 with a degree in Chemistry. On October 21, 1942, Dorothy married Robert W. Manning in Selfridge Michigan. Robert was killed over the English Channel on June 23, 1944. She later married Miles O. Kier on December 31, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska. Miles passed away on April 10, 2003 in Davenport, Iowa. Dorothy honorably served her country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. She later went to work for the Civil Service in St. Louis, Missouri and then Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa retiring in 1986.
Dorothy was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, American Legion. She enjoyed reading. Dorothy’s true passion was entertaining friends with her cooking.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law, Judith (Bert) Chrisinger of Wichita, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by both husbands, Robert and Miles; a twin brother, James Carter and her parents.
