Dorothy W. Haas, age 93 of Savanna, Illinois, surrounded by her family, went to heaven on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Derinda. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s memory.
Dorothy was born on September 11, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Randecker) Randecker at her family home in Elizabeth, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended Oliver School on Heer Road in rural Elizabeth.
Dorothy married Wayne J. Haas on June 8, 1947 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda. After they were married, Dorothy and Wayne helped farm the Haas family farm in rural, Savanna. They later co-owned and operated the Black Angus Supper Club in Savanna from 1972-1979. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and playing golf. Most of all, Dorothy cherished spending time with her family and friends. She loved her Lord and Savior and her church family. Dorothy acted as Sunday school superintendent, served on many church boards and faithfully taught Sunday school for many years. She was always willing to help someone in need.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her husband of 71 years, Wayne; four daughters, Elaine (Michael) Klippert of Elizabeth, Susan (Mark) Haring of Bettendorf, Iowa, Rosemary (Michael Melhus) Hartman of Savanna, and Rita (Thomas) Tracey of Princeton, Illinois; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luella (Donald) Thoren of Massbach, Illinois, JoAnn (James) Carver of Glendale, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Donna Beyer of Stockton, Illinois. Dorothy is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Hansen; one grandson, Aaron Klippert; a brother, Harold Randecker; and her parents.
