Dorothy Gale

Dorothy Miller Gale, age 83, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa and Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Coventry Village, Sterling. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2005 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Inurnment will be at La Fayette Cemetery in La Fayette, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, prior to the Memorial Service at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com . Memorials may be given to the family in Dorothy’s memory for the St. John’s Methodist Church Foundation in Davenport, Iowa.
Dorothy was born November 18, 1921 in Galva, Illinois, the daughter of Matthew and Bertha (Barr) Miller. She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1939 in the La Fayette Schools. She graduated from the Kewanee Business School following high school. Dorothy married Ralph Gale on December 25, 1941 in Kewanee, Illinois. Ralph passed away on May 17, 1991 in Davenport, Iowa. Dorothy worked as the secretary to the Munitions School at the Savanna Army Depot and the secretary to the General at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the St. John’s Methodist Church in Davenport, Iowa, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Dorothy enjoyed reading, sewing, baking and listening to classical music.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her two children, Paul (JoAnne) Gale of Sterling, Illinois and Joan Wilson of Decatur, Georgia; three granddaughters-Carrie Fowler, Sarah Ahmed, Saasha Wilson; and one grandson, Tom Kavadas. She is preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Wayne Miller.
