Dorothy Cheesman

Dorothy J. Cheesman age 83, of Apple River, Illinois passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Zion Presbyterian Church in Schapville, Illinois. Burial will take place in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, Schapville. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon the time of the service.

Dorothy was born May 18, 1931, the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude E. (Lennig) Michels in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Leyden High School, Franklin Park, Illilnois and graduated with the Class of 1949. On December 31, 1949, Dorothy married the love of her life Roy E. Cheesman in Franklin Park. Dorothy was the secretary for the Community Presbyterian Church in Lombard for fifteen years. She also worked as a tax consultant for five years.

Dorothy was a member of the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church in Schapville, Illinois and the Elizabeth Historical Society. She was a past volunteer of Hospice and the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Dorothy had a true passion for painting. Most of all she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Dorothy will be dearly missed by her husband, Roy of Apple River; one son, Danny (Cheryl) Cheesman of Dekalb, Illinois; a daughter, Teri (Dave) Roberts of St. Charles, Illinois; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Thomas O. (Mercedes) Michels of Kearney, Nebraska, John (Eppa) Michels of West Union, West Virginia. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie Urban.
