Dorothy "Jane" Chaffee

Dorothy “Jane” Chaffee, age 88, formerly of Milledgeville, Illinois, died Monday, February 11, 2013, at The Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Dutchtown Church of the Brethren in Milledgeville. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Jane’s memory. Jane was born on March 20, 1924, in Dekalb, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd and Margerie (McDole) Shaffer. Jane attended Milledgeville High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. She married Max Chaffee on February 24, 1946. Max died on June 26, 2002.
Jane and Max owned Chaffee’s Café in Milledgeville for many years. Jane also worked as a CNA at numerous nursing homes and the Morrison Hospital. She was a member of the Dutchtown Church of the Brethren in Milledgeville. Most of all, Jane loved spending time with her family and friends.
Jane is survived by one daughter, Peggy Kolb of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; one son, Kevin Chaffee of Oakwood Hills, Illinois; one grandson, Jake Chaffee; one granddaughter, Emily Chaffee; two sisters-in law, Kathy Siperly and Lola Chaffee; and one brother-in-law, Elwin Duhm.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sally Siperly and Betty Duhm; one brother, Robert Shaffer and one grandson, J.R. Strehlow.
