Dorothy L Bollen

Dorothy L. Bollen, age 97, of Savanna, Illinois died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Law-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till the time of the service at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Dorothy was born October 27, 1913, the daughter of Joseph B. and Gertrude (Smith) Hood in Mount Carroll. She graduated from Savanna High School. After training, Dorothy became a United States Army Commissioned Officer in September of 1943 until her honorable discharge in 1946. On June 7, 1955 Dorothy married Harold Edward “Dick” Bollen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dick died April 6, 2004. Dorothy worked at the Savanna Army Depot as a Finance Officer until her retirement in 1972.
Dorothy was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Savanna, American Legion in Sabula, Iowa, and the Women of the Moose in Savanna. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; a brother, Leon Hood; a sister, Marian Conley.
