Doris Mae Grim, age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the York Community Church, Thomson, Illinois with Pastor Ruth Lyons officiating. Burial will take place at Upper York Cemetery, Argo Fay. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Doris’ name.
Doris was born May 22, 1928 in Stendal, Indiana, the daughter of Oliver and Alice (Hemmer) Weitkamp. She is a 1946 graduate of the Holland High School, Holland, Indiana. While visiting family near Thomson, Illinois, Doris met the love of her life, Leslie Blaine Grim. They were married June 10, 1950 in Thomson. Leslie and Doris have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Most of her life was centered around family as Doris was a loving Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. She enjoyed attending all of her children’s activities, and then her grandchildren’s activities. Doris and Leslie spent their spare time tending their flower garden together. She also liked canning fresh vegetables and baking.
Doris was a member of the York Community Church of Thomson. She worked nineteen years in the cafeteria serving the children of the Mt. Carroll and West Carroll School Districts.
Doris will be dearly missed by her husband, Leslie of Mt. Carroll; two daughters, Kara (Dick) Thomasson of Lena, Illinois and Patti (Mark) Shepard of Fulton, Illinois; her son, Ray (Christie) Grim of Albany, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Josh (Haley Lott) Grim, Shauna (Chris) Lewis, Joe (Sara Cole) Grim, Jessica (Eric) Ballard, Eric Thomasson, Karissa and Katelyn Shepard; six great grandchildren, Carson, Connor, Tatum, Laura, Joseph and Gavin; and a sister, Mary Lou Buse of Holland, Indiana. Doris is preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Weitkamp, and both parents.
