Doris (Edwards) Geisz, age 89, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2025 at Javon Bea Hospital, Rockford, Illinois.
Doris was born on May 28, 1935, in Lanark, IL, to Glen and Mary Ellen (Zilhart) Edwards. She attended Georgetown School through 8th grade and graduated from Lanark Highs School with the class of 1953. After graduation she married Kenneth L. Geisz on January 12, 1958 and lived a fun and great life for 66 years until his passing on April 9, 2024.
Doris held numerous jobs throughout her life, including years at Lotz Motors in Lanark and Swiss Colony. As she grew a bit older and was blessed with grandchildren, she began staying home to help babysit her grandkids, until they were of school age. All those who loved her and were lucky enough to be loved by her, know that her most important work of her life was that of a mom, wife, grandma and great grandma.
In her free time, Doris loved crafting and enjoyed various types of puzzles. But nothing brought her joy like watching her grandkids’ sporting and 4H events.
Doris will be dearly missed by her three children, Deborah (Dennis) Earnest of Blue Grass, IA, Irvin (Audrey) Geisz of Elizabeth, IL, and Kimberly (Wayne) Van Raalte of Shannon, IL; one grandchild, Codie (Nate) Koester; one great granddaughter, Kate Ann Koester, and baby Koester on the way; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; grandson, Rhett Geisz; two brothers, Laverne and Rev. Herbert; sister, Wilma and their spouses; her maternal and paternal parents, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 15, 2025 at the First Brethren Church at 12 p.m., with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will be at the Lanark Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the church. Doris’ family would like to share their appreciation for the incredible care that she received while residing at Allure of Mt. Carroll.
A memorial fund will be established in Doris’ name.
