Dorathy M. Overcash

Dorathy M. Overcash, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away April 19th, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital in Clinton, IA. A celebration of Dorathy’s life will be held at a later date.
Dorathy was born December 22, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Francis (Searles) Christiansen. She attended Wheaton High School, and graduated with the class of 1942. Soon after graduating Dorathy married the love of her life, Robert Overcash, on July 25th, 1942. Together they raised two children and celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Dorathy spent much of her life as a homemaker for her family. She also taught ceramics for 30 years. She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose in Naperville, and the Naperville VFW. In her free time Dorathy enjoyed ceramics, sewing, knitting, and golfing. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorathy was always just a phone call away, and always put everyone else's needs before her own. No matter what any of us were facing (good or bad) she was always our strongest supporter. The words “I” or “you” were not ever in her vocabulary, it was always "we". We as a family were always so proud that our mother, grandmother, great grandmother was still working a home health care job with “Tender Loving Care” until the age of 98. We would tell people, with a smile on our face, that she helped take care of old people that were younger than her! She always needed to be needed.
Dorathy will be dearly missed by her two sons, Robert (Jeannine Mills) Overcash Jr. of Savanna, IL, and Jack (Leah) Overcash of Oregon; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 nephew. Dorathy is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Frank and Francis; her brother, Frank; her sister, Gerry; and her daughter-in-law, Susanne.
