Donna Meyer, age 71, of Savanna, Illinois passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Friday, August 13, 2010. She had been under the compassionate care of her husband and Mercy Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna with Reverend Larry Thomson officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 12:00 noon till the time of the service. Donna was born September 9, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the daughter of George and Ellen (Hokenson) Schrader. She received her education in Van Horne, Iowa where she was active in 4H and Girls Basketball. In 1956, she graduated from Colorado Springs High School, Colorado Springs, Colorado.On March 16, 1957, Donna married Charles Meyer at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Van Horne and in 1965, settled in Savanna. Donna was active with Cub Scouts and Band Boosters. In later years she volunteered at the Savanna Thrift Shop. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.Donna enjoyed reading mysteries, working in her flower garden and collecting owls. For that matter, she enjoyed collecting anything purple! Above all, she loved all animals. Donna is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, Charles; her son: Jamie, his wife Krys and two grandchildren: Galli and Abigail, all of Palm Harbor, Florida. She was proceeded in death by her parents and a half sister, Viola Bobzien.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to any Humane Society or Mercy Hospice.
