Donald "Dale" Wand

Donald Dale Wand, age 84, of Elizabeth, IL, passed away on December 5, 2022, at his daughter's house in Galena, IL. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Elizabeth, on Friday, December 9th at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., at the church, prior to the mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share in Dale’s life, at lawjonesfuneralhome.com

Dale was born January 16, 1938, in Derinda Township, IL, the son of William and Elizabeth (Goldhagen) Wand. He graduated from Elizabeth High School with the class of 1956. Following high school, Dale served his county in the Army Reserves. He then went to work in factory jobs, spending most of his career at Atwoods in Stockton, IL, from which he would ultimately retire. On June 25, 1960, Dale married Mary “Judith” Hoster, in Elizabeth.

Dale loved to fish and hunt, and he collected a few coins and old habitat stamps. In his earlier years, he enjoyed working on his train sets. He would attend as many of the great grandkids’ games, band concerts, grandparents days at school, and show choir performances. As well as Kathy's grandkids activities too.

Dale is survived by his children, Cheryl (Tim) White, Don Wand, and Debbie Hoppman; grandkids, Chad (Tammy) White, Katie White, and Jordan Hoppman; great-grandkids, Molly and Mason White; brothers, Wayne (Ester) Wand and Robert (Kathy) Wand; sisters, Judy (Harvey) McGivney and Mary Lou (Jim) Schaible; sister-in-law, Sharon (Bill) Wand; many nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Kathy Young and her family. Dale is preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Judy) Hoster Wand; parents, William and Elizabeth Wand and Harold Rayhorn; brother, William Wand; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Wand; brother, Alvin (Pat) Wand; and son-in-law, Tim White.
