Donald James Rogers, Jr., age 49, of Savanna, Illinois died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna, with Pastor Gene Meyers officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established for Don.
Don was born October 23, 1959, in Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of Donald and Bertha (LaShelle) Rogers, Sr.. After high school, Don enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorable Discharged in 1984. On April 3, 1983 Donald married Linda Turner.
Don was a member of Big River Abate and the Southern Baptist Association. He enjoyed volunteering for Carroll County Relay for Life and was awarded the Relay for Life 2009 Volunteer of the Year. He also served as the interim Pastor of the Common Ground Fellowship Mission in Savanna. Don had worked for IBP in Joslin, Metform and CJs Restaurant, both in Savanna. He also worked as the head of security for the Iron Horse Festival in Sabula.
Donald will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda Rogers of Savanna; two sons, Donald James Rogers III and Benjamin Rogers; three daughters, Aimee Rogers, Emily Rogers and Gracie Rogers; one grandson, Forrest “Lil Fo” Lincicum; four brothers, Harry (Pam) Rogers of Freeport, Chuck Rogers, Bob (Dawn) Rogers, and James Rogers all of Mt. Carroll; three sisters, Debbie (Ted) Long of Savanna, Donna Jo (Lyle) Althoff of Mt. Carroll and Jerrie (Bob) Jackley of Clinton, Iowa.
Donald is preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Mike.
