Donald A. Miller, age 84, of Pace, Florida formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, August 9, 2007, in Pensacola, Florida after a long illness. A Graveside Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery with Father Dennis Atto of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2223. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Emerald Coast, P. O. Box 1520, Lynn Haven, Florida 32444.
Don was born on June 30, 1923 the son of George Edward and Sylvia (Rogers) Miller in Freeport, Illinois. Don grew up in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and spent most of his adult life in Savanna. On June 6, 1942, Don married Betty Jane Parker in Savanna. Betty died on February 3, 1992.
Don served as an Anti-aircraft Gunner in World War II. He began working on the Milwaukee Railroad in 1946, upon his return from Europe and discharge from the Army. He retired as a Railroad Engineer in 1980.
Don will be dearly missed by two daughters Judy (Dan) Popeleski and Jenann (Gary) Brinkmeier; a son Scott (Betsy) Miller all of Pace, Florida; and five grandchildren Tiffinie (Popeleski) Brockner, Erich Brinkmeier, Amy Brinkmeier, Molly Miller and Tory Miller, as well as four great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jane (Parker) Miller and three siblings; Charlotte Devine, John Miller and Patricia Miller all of Mt. Carroll.
