Donald Lee Mccartney

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Donny” Lee McCartney, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Donny left us on August 24, 2024, at the age of 62. He passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones in Thomson.

Donny was born and raised in Washington, PA. He was born August 5, 1962, to Wilbert “Sunny” and Sharon (Yaeger) McCartney in Washington, PA. Donny was born one of four siblings; Becky, Dawna, and Wilbert “Bill” McCartney. Donny had three beloved children named Donald Jr., Laura Jo, and Kayla.

Donny was known for being a skilled handyman. He showed special interest in woodworking and landscaping/gardening. Donny was especially proud of his garage and his impressive tool collection. He loved his dogs. Donny was known for being a “manly man” with his big stature, tattoos and muscles. His rugged look was always paired perfectly with a big smile and a heart full of gold.

Donny married his childhood friend and love of his life, Kathy Fonner, on 4/20/2018.

Donald is survived by his love, Kathy; his mother, Sharon McCartney; two daughters, Laura McCartney and Kayla McCartney; four stepsons, Jeremy Elifritz, Josh Elifritz, Tyler Elifritz and Skyler Everhart; two stepdaughters, Kayla Parkinson and Krista Marley; friend, Anne Johnson; and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbert “Sunny” McCartney; son, Donald “DJ” McCartney Jr.; grandson, Jayden Daniel Kaine Cunningham; and granddaughter, Alexa Nicole-Ellen Marley.
