Donald "Don" Marcus Shaw

Donald “Don” Marcus Shaw, age 70, of Savanna, Illinois died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at FHN Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Reverend David Vidler officiating, followed by a gathering at the Savanna Moose Lodge. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Don was born October 18, 1941 in Savanna, the son of Truman B. and Verda L. (Bailey) Shaw. He is a 1961 graduate of the Savanna High School. On June 18, 1966, Don married Glenda McNabb. He later married Sandra Linden on May 30, 1982. They have enjoyed over 30 years together.
At a young age, Don went to work for the Burlington Railroad, later becoming an Engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll and often attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. Don was a longtime member of the Savanna Moose Lodge where he served as past Governor. He also received the highest lifetime honor in the Moose, the Degree of Pilgrim.
Watching the races was something he always loved. He used to say "dirts for racing and asphalts for gettin there". He played fast pitch softball when he was younger and when he could no longer play he loved to watch the games. Don loved community volunteer work, especially if it benefited children. He also enjoyed time spent with his family camping, frog hunting, rides on the RR, attending auctions and traveling. He liked telling stories and sharing his sense of humor with friends.
Don is survived by his wife Sandra; three sons and two daughters, Jay B. Kelly of Urbana, Iowa, Victoria E. Shaw, Denny O. Kelly, D. Marcus (Stephanie) Shaw, Jr., and Cassy Shaw and Heath Bergman, all of Savanna; two grandsons, Jacob and Dalton; a granddaughter on-the-way; and a brother, Bert and Mary Shaw of Savanna. Don is preceded in death by both parents.
