Donald F. Hill, age 93 of Elizabeth, Illinois died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elizabeth. Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Church.
Donald was born November 3, 1921, at the Long Hollow Family Farm, the son of Frank and Eda (Kern) Hill. Donald worked on the family farm until 1950 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1954. After returning to the States he farmed the family farm and married Ilene Roberts in 1974.
Donald worked at the Eagle Ridge Inn and Resort for 10 years as a Bellman. He was a member of the Farmer’s Hatchery and Exchange Board, the Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau, Elizabeth Fair Board, and was the Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1997. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10212.
Donald is survived by a step-son, Larry (Pam) Roberts of Lena, IL; many step-grandchildren; five sisters, Rose Mary Hellstern of Woodstock, IL, Elmeda Bohnsack of Elizabeth, IL, Mary Ilene (Joe) Lamm of Stockton, IL, Barbara (Tom) Fitzsimmons of Modesto, CA, Delores Jakubek of Scottsdale, AZ; a brother-in-law, James Everts of Madison, WI; and many nieces and nephews.Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ilene; step-daughter, Suzanne Sanders; two sisters, Frances Hill and Lois Everts; and three brothers-in-laws, Francis Hellstern, Kenneth Bohnsack, and James Jakubeck.
