Donald W. "Gus" Morhardt, age 87, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Thursday, September 14, 2006 FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2006 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Reverend David Vidler of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll, will officiate. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with full Military Rites accorded. Friends may call from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Gus’s name.
Gus was born June 9, 1919, the son of Gustave and Lillian (Dale) Morhardt, in Mt.Carroll, Illinois. He attended Arnold’s Grove and Fairground Country Schools going on to Mt. Carroll High School. Gus served in the United States Army during World War II. On October 19, 1946, Gus married Marjorie Irwin in Mt. Carroll. Marjorie passed away January 14, 2004.
Gus worked for Frank Furniture & Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll for many years; the City of Mt. Carroll Sewer Department and also farmed in the area. He was a member of the Mt. Carroll American Legion, and the Savanna Moose Lodge. Gus and Marjorie enjoyed visiting and talking with friends and neighbors.
Gus is survived by a brother, Darwin (Darlene) Morhardt of Orangeville, Illinois; two sisters, Evelyn Morhardt of Freeport, Illinois and Darlene Streicher of Thomson, Illinois.
His wife, Marjorie and both parents precede Gus in death.
