Donald “Fly” R. Fehlhafer, age 55, of Lanark, IL passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in his home, with his family by his side, in the care of Heartland Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Lanark Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at the Lanark City Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4pm to 7pm Friday, August 16, 2019, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials will be given to the Lanark Volunteer Fire Dept.
Donald was born September 14, 1963, in Postville, IA, the son of Edward Clarence and Vonda Lou (Boleyn) Fehlhafer. He attended Lanark schools, graduating from Lanark High School with the class of 1983. Donald drove a truck for Nutrien (formerly CPS) of Lanark for a number of years, and worked with several area farmers. A proud participant in his community, Donald was a volunteer Firefighter for the Lanark Fire Dept. and was a member of the Lanark Mens Club.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed motorsports. He’d spend hours riding motorcycles, and working on race cars with his friends at Garnhardt Motorsports, serving as part of the pit crew for the Garnhardt team. When he wasn’t delving into his hobbies, Donald loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, who he treated like his own children. He cherished family and friends and loved being apart of the lives of both; always being available in their times of need. Donald was known for his positive attitude and his wonderful smile.
Donald will be dearly missed by his father and step-mother, Edward Fehlhafer and Anne Lindsay, of Lanark; two brothers, Gary (Heidi) Fehlhafer of Sioux Center, IA and Tommy (Sue) Fehlhafer of Princeton, IL; a sister Susan (L. Ben) Chase of Pekin, IL; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
Donald is preceded in death by his mother, Vonda Lou Fehlhafer in 2009.
