Donald J. DuBois, age 86, of Miles, Iowa, died on Monday, June 8, 2009, at Lantern Park Nursing Home, Coralville, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston with Reverend Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will follow in the Spragueville Cemetery, Spragueville, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Don was born on March 5, 1923, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Boge) DuBois. He attended Xavier High School in Dyersville. While in high school, Don pitched for the town’s American Legion baseball team. Don enlisted in the Unites States Army in 1943, serving in France during World War II. Don returned to Dyersville in 1946 and worked in Signal Maintenance for the Chicago and the Great Western Railroad. Don married Marian Asmussen on October 12, 1972. They lived in Preston, Iowa where they raised their three children. Don moved to Miles in 1994.

Don loved baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye football. Don enjoyed spending time with his family most of all.

Donald will be dearly missed by his son, DJ (Deb) DuBois of North Liberty, Iowa and their sons, Garrett and Blake; a daughter, Christine (Lee) Christof of rural Clinton, Iowa and their sons, Mason, Alex, and Evan; and his daughter, Jackie (Tim) Atkinson of Clinton and their daughter, Ava; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Doris Carpenter and Dorothy Nurre.
