Donald Eugene Behrens

Donald Eugene Behrens, age 65, of Woodland Township near Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Rockford, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2005 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Pastor David Vidler will officiate. There will be additional visitation time one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the family in Donald’s memory. Donald was born October 12, 1939 in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Bernard and Eileen Behrens. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School, Class of 1958. Donald married Sharon Randecker on November 8, 1959 at the Good Hope Church in Pleasant Valley Township. He worked as a farmer for over 40 years in the Mt. Carroll area. Donald was a farmer of all trades. His family tended to dairy cows, beef cattle, and even sheep. His family received County and State Farm Family of the Year in 1997. Donald also worked as a Seed Corn Dealer for the area. He was active in his community and throughout the county. Donald was one of the Directors of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board from 1979-1992. He also served as the clerk for the Woodland Township Board. Donald was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. He enjoyed going camping with his family and closely following High School athletics via the radio. He loved taking care of his dogs. But most of all, he loved spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Donald will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon Behrens of Woodland Township; his five children; Michael (Sylvia Ehrler) Behrens of Mt. Carroll, Dawn (Keith) Rath of Savanna,IL, Lee Behrens of Mt. Carroll, Denise (Dwayne) Harridge of Mt. Carroll, Diane (Mike) Haring of Elizabeth, IL; a special family friend, Rebecca Wilson of Mt. Carroll; 14 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Janice Wiersema of Rock Falls, IL; Ellen (Doug) McCulloh of Morrison, IL; Dorothy (Dennis) Morris of Milledgeville, IL; and Joyce Behrens of Savanna; and several nieces and nephews. Donald is preceded in death by his parents and son, Randy Behrens.
