Don "D.I." Marken

October 17, 1934 — March 8, 2016

The local doughnut bakery lost a loyal customer on March 8, 2016. Don I. Marken died after a battle with Democrats, heart disease and diabetes. The latter two most likely attributed to his love of doughnuts.
Don worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and later formed Marken & Watters Construction Co. On the side, Don dabbled in the medical field and held the position as a doctor, minus the training, education, and experience. However, if water and baking soda was what you needed, Don was your man. Many in the medical field refused to acknowledge Don’s contributions but this was obviously an attack from the big pharmaceutical companies and Obamacare.
Don enjoyed reading, napping, lying about his golf scores, snoozing, firearms, nodding off, and doughnuts. He also loved creating affection nicknames for all his children, nieces and nephews. This was believed to be a term of endearment; however it may just be that Don couldn’t remember anyone’s names.
He is survived by his four children. His oldest son, Glenn Marken (Hippie) grew up helping his father, first at home and then on with Don’s construction business. This is where Don developed much of his parenting and leadership skills with such wisdom as “Because I’m the dad, that’s why” and later refined to “because I’m the boss, that’s why.
His second son Kevin Marken (Geez) brought much joy and happiness to Don. But then Kevin returned home from the army. Kevin also helped Don run his business but also needed reminders of who the dad/boss was. However, Kevin has the greatest honor of constantly being told “you look so much like your dad”, a statement that haunts Kevin every day.
His favorite child Kimberley (Suza Bella.) married Andrew Donald. Don dearly loved his son-in-law and forgave him long ago for not being the medical doctor Don sent his daughter to nursing school in order to snag. Shortly before his passing, Don passed on some of his medical knowledge by explaining to Kim (with diagrams) how to properly insert an intravenous needle properly (true story). Kim never needed to be informed of the “whys” by her dad; Kim just did as she was told.
Kristy Marken (Pooper) was Don’s final child and 2nd daughter and from an early age was a natural performer. She excelled in dance and Don never missed a performance. However, it wasn’t until after Kristy graduated high school that Don’s discovered he was merely part of the audience and not the director’s chair as he once thought. “Because I’m the dad” never worked on Kristy.
Don left behind four grandchildren: Paige (Bunker, Kim’s daughter), Aaron (Peanut Guy, Glenn’s son) & Elizabeth (Whizzy, Kristy’s daughter). It was always reassuring to know that when the grandkids needed “straightening out” Don would step up. Using a little self-taught child psychology trick of falling asleep in his recliner, the grandkids worked out any issues by coloring all over his bald head with colored sharpies. Don’s oldest grandkid, Robert (Moon, Kevin’s step son) was always treated as one of Don’s own but a good amount of therapy should take care of that.
Don left behind a plethora of “treasures” to his children who have no idea what to do with it. So if you're looking for 3 extremely large TV's from the 90’s, a large plastic owl, a toaster oven (slightly used), 3 vacuum cleaner (1 actually works), 4 cordless phones slightly dismantle but fairly confident all the parts can be found, or even 194 VCR tapes, let us assist you. However, please wait the appropriate amount of time out of respect for the family. Tomorrow should be fine.
