Dolores L. Stevenson died at her home in Galena, Illinois on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Dolores was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 23, 1928, the daughter of Erick and Henrietta (Marshall) Davidson. In 1946, after graduating from Lindblom Technical High School in Chicago, Illinois, she worked at the Chicago Park District. Soon after, she met Charles Stevenson, a veteran of World War II. Dolores and Charles were married at Peace Memorial Church in Chicago on October 16, 1948. They moved west to California in 1959. During a family camp in the 1960s, at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center in Felton, California, she was the first in the family to become a Christian. In 1975, Charles was transferred back to the Midwest and they settled in Wheaton, Illinois. Dolores and Charles retired to Galena, Illinois in 1996.
Above all, Dolores loved the Lord and lived a life of faithful service to Him. In California, she became involved with Wetherell Johnson’s newborn Bible Study Fellowship. She continued with BSF in Wheaton where she became an Assistant Teaching Leader. Dolores was an active member of the Ygnacio Valley Evangelical Free Church, Walnut Creek, CA, Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, Wheaton, IL and the Galena Bible Church, Galena, IL. Dolores was a homemaker; she was devoted to her husband, a loving attentive mother to her four children and actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her Galena home, Dolores hosted elegant Christmas Eve celebrations for her growing family. Along the way she worked in sales for Capwell’s, Carson Pirie Scott and World Class Imports and, for the past thirty years, was a Mary Kay Consultant. She and Charles celebrated seventy years of marriage in October.
Dolores will be dearly missed by her devoted husband, Charles; her four children, James (Christine) Stevenson of Poplar Grove, IL, Laurel (Paul) Eshelman of Elizabeth, IL, Paul (Kim) Stevenson of Naperville, IL and Heather (Bob) O’Meara of Chicago, IL; her nine grandchildren, James (Debbi) Stevenson, Jason (Melissa Graf) Stevenson, Joshua (Debbie) Stevenson, Jennifer (Jonathan) Lauriat, Eliot (Jill) Eshelman, Alec (Kate) Eshelman, Hannah (Zach) Marshall, Caleb (Hannah) Stevenson and Nathanael Stevenson; her fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way.
Dolores was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents and her sister, Ethel Johnson. Memorials can be given to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607, or online,
