Dixie Darleen Gher, age 83, of Sabula, Iowa, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Mercy Living Center South, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services at the funeral home.
Dixie was born on April 22, 1926, the daughter of Raymond and Mary (Smith) McHone in Viola, Wisconsin. Dixie married Donald Gher on June 24, 1944. Donald died on October 7, 1999.
Dixie was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She and Don also operated a craft shop, “Our Wood Shed,” in Galena, Illinois, for several years. Dixie loved painting, carving and creating her crafts. Dixie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Dixie and Don enjoyed fishing and hunting in Northern Wisconsin.
Dixie will be dearly missed by four daughters, Linda (Ken) Perkins of Loganville, Wisconsin, Barbara (Jeff) Henderson of Waunakee, Wisconsin, Diana (Larry) Schluter of Hubertus, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Tom) Dabron of Fulton, Illinois; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Dixie is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one great granddaughter, Bella Schluter; a brother, Milo McHone; two sisters, Justina McHone and Birchie Harris; and nephew, Roger McHone.
