Diane L. Martin, age 57, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the National MS Society, Greater Illinois Chapter, 525 West Monroe Street, Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60661 in Diane’s memory.
Diane was born on August 17, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John J. and Dorothy M. (Helsel) Griffin. She attended Baileyville Grade School in Baileyville, Illinois and graduated from Forreston High School, Forreston, Illinois with the Class of 1974. Diane was united in marriage to Michael Martin in Mt. Carroll at the United Methodist Church on July 6, 1979.
She worked for Honeywell in Freeport, Illinois for twenty-three and half years until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Diane was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Illinois Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. She enjoyed, collecting thimbles and chicken figurines. She cherished the moments that she was able to put a smile on someone’s face when she was able to crochet or sew a special picture, baby blanket, or just finish embroidering a project. Most of all Diane loved the time she spent with her family, pets, and anyone who would just stop by to say hi.
Diane is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mike Martin of Mt. Carroll; a daughter, Kimberly (Greg) Rada of Florence, Illinois; a son, Chris (Kelli) Martin of Mt. Carroll; three brothers, Carl Burwitz of Chisago City, Minnesota, Bernard (Anne) Burwitz of Beloit, Wisconsin and Ronnie (Connie) Burwitz of Baileyville; a sister, Judy (Glen) Weems of Baileyville; a brother in-law, Calvin Stuck of Broadhead, Wisconsin; father in-law, Earl Martin of Mt. Carroll; twenty two nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and a very special nephew, Randy Pfile.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Linda Pfile and Rosemary Stuck; and sister in-law Phyllis Burwitz.
