Derwood Frank Lundquist, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, Illinois. A Masoic Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Harkness officiating. Derwood’s Body has been donated to Science through Northern Illinois University. His cremated remains will later be inurned in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A memorial has been established.
Derwood was born March 3, 1919 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Frank A. and Elsie (Hagemeister) Lundquist. He is a graduate of the Rockford High School with the Class of 1937. On August 7, 1943, Derwood married Gunnel M. Grinndal in Chicago, Illinois. They have celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Derwood and his family moved to Mt. Carroll from the Chicago suburbs to open a furniture factory. He first operated the business known as A.D.V. that manufactured wooden bunk beds in downtown Mt. Carroll before building a manufacturing facility near Mt. Carroll, most recently known as the DURA building. Throughout Derwood’s career, he worked as a purchasing agent for United Airlines, Admiral and Lockheed Corp. Derwood also sold educational materials to schools, and with his wife, he owned and operated an interior design business known as Carroll House in Mt. Carroll.
He was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church; Cyrus Masonic Lodge #188; Scottish Rite; Tebala Shrine; the Sveas Soner Swedish Singing Society in Rockford; and the Senior Housing Board, Mt. Carroll. Derwood enjoyed singing, woodworking, fishing and golfing.
Derwood will be greatly missed by his wife, Gunnel of Mt. Carroll; four sons, Paul (Dorothy Morgan) Lundquist of Burnsville, NC, Thomas (Lee Anne Turner) Lundquist of Onalaska, TX, John (Beverly) Lundquist of Mt. Carroll and Matthew (Jane) Lundquist of Mt. Carroll; and four grandchildren, (Christopher, Malissa, James, and Elissa ). Derwood is preceded in death by both parents.
