Dennis “Duce” John Dyson, 75, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026.
A celebration of life will be held at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna on Saturday, November 14, 2026. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Duce was born on June 9, 1951, in Freeport, Illinois, to Bob and Jean (Noble) Dyson. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1969. Duce was a welder by trade, skilled with his hands and proud of an honest day’s work. But it was at Lake Carroll Golf Course, where he tended the fairways and greens as an assistant greenskeeper, that he found the work he loved most.
On December 20th, 1980, Duce married Denise Rice, and together they built a family and shared twenty years of marriage. Their greatest gift was their three sons, Bryan, Adam, and Cody, who remained the pride of his life. In later years, Duce found love and companionship with Cathy Corey. For twenty-two years, she was his partner, confidante, and best friend, until her passing in 2023.
Duce was a hardworking man, an independent free spirit, and a loyal friend to many. He loved the open road on his Harley-Davidson and spent his free time golfing, fishing, shooting pool, and playing softball. He worked hard and played hard. A devoted animal lover, he had a kind heart and a passion for helping others. As a Little League coach for his sons, he shared his love of sports and taught young athletes the value of teamwork and perseverance. Known for his loyalty, generosity, and sense of adventure, Duce was a trusted friend who could always be counted on.
He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Jennifer) Dyson of Coulterville, Illinois; Adam (Carrie) Dyson of Carterville, Illinois; and Cody Dyson of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Sharon) Dyson of Annandale, Minnesota, and Mick Dyson of Savanna, Illinois; sister, Deb Akker of Prentice, Wisconsin; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved Cathy Corey; and brother-in-law, Phil Akker.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His spirit, stories, and friendships will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
“Ride free, Duce.”
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
