Delores “Dee” K. Ehlers, age 78, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A private family graveside will be held at Savanna Township Cemetery.
Dee was born March 14, 1933, in Imperial, Nebraska, the daughter of Friel and Hollis (Jaeger) Wilson. She graduated from Sidney, Nebraska, High School. Dee married Elfert “Bill” Ehlers Jr. on May 22, 1954, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1996.
Dee worked as a secretary prior to her marriage, then focused on raising her family. She was a talented seamstress and made much of the family’s clothing. Dee also loved cooking in the kitchen and she always enjoyed spending time in her gardens planting flowers. She enjoyed crosswords, puzzles, needlepoint, and watching “Wheel Of Fortune.”
Dee is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Nancy (Kim) Lawfer of Savanna, Illinois; two sons, Bob Ehlers of El Segundo, California, and Tom (Karen) Ehlers of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; seven grandchildren who brought her much joy, Katy Lawfer, Rich Lawfer, Cooper Ehlers, Kallyn Ehlers, Tessa Ehlers, Haley Ehlers, and Cameron Ehlers; and two sisters, Donna (Ed) Lacombe and Betty Wilson, both of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elfert “Bill” Ehlers; and one brother, Wayne Wilson.
