Della C. Banowetz, age 97, of Charlotte, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10: 30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte, Iowa. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Sugar Creek, Iowa. Friends may call from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. A Rosary Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. prior to the visitation. Della was born on November 18, 1908 in Browns, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Frances (Rose) Teshak. Della attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Sugar Creek. She married Leo M. Banowetz on February 7, 1934 in Sugar Creek, Iowa. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. Della and Leo farmed west of Preston and later in the Charlotte area, retiring and moving to town in 1969. She was a longtime member of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society in Charlotte, Iowa. Della was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in DeWitt, Iowa. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, quilting, crocheting and gardening but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.
Della is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Betty) Banowetz of Goose Lake, Iowa and Ronald (Duetta) Banowetz of Charlotte, Iowa; three daughters, Marie (Andrew) Bormann of Charlotte, Iowa, Dorothy (Jim) Kilburg of Miles, Iowa and Lucille (Wayne) Schoel of Clinton, Iowa and one sister Clara Wiemerskirch of Maquoketa, Iowa; twenty-four grandchildren and fifty great-grandchildren.
Della is preceded in death by her husband, Leo; two grandsons, John Bormann and an infant boy Schoel; one great-grandson, Grant Evans; one brother, Vernard Teshak and one sister, Marie Arkenberg.
