Delbert P. Hansen

March 29, 1927 — June 24, 2017

Delbert P. “Whity” Hansen, age 90, of Miles, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will take place in Miles City Cemetery in Miles, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. A masonic service will be held at 3:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Delbert’s memory and will be donated to a charity that supports Alzheimer Disease.
Delbert was born in the family home on March 29, 1927, the son of Arthur and Johanna (Bredall) Hansen. Delbert attended Miles High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. Delbert married the love of his life, Lorraine Jacobs on November 29, 1969 in Springbrook, Iowa.
Delbert was a farmer and worked the family farm his entire life. Delbert was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, where he sang in the choir and served as an usher. He was a forty-year member of the Sabula Izaak Walton League, a fifty-year member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, and a fifty-year member of the Bellevue Masonic Lodge, Post #51. Delbert loved his community and supported many groups, but favored the East Central School Districts “Dollars for Scholars” program. Delbert and Lorraine enjoyed traveling and took several bus trips together throughout the United States. Delbert cherished visiting with friends and playing cards. He also enjoyed driving through the countryside, looking at the crops.
Delbert will be dearly missed by his wife, Lorraine of Miles; one son, David (Michell) Hansen of Miles; three grandchildren, Justin (fiancé, Christina Mitchell) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Evan and Darin Hansen, both at home; and one great granddaughter, Emma Hansen. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Johanna Hansen.
