Delbert William Ertmer, age 83, of Elizabeth, Illinois passed away February 28, 2017 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth Illinois. A visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Law Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Illinois, with a Rosary Service taking place at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:30 am at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth, Illinois. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are going to the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department, Elizabeth Ambulance EMT or the Elizabeth Historical Society. Lunch will be served in the basement of the church at the conclusion of the service.
Delbert was born on April 11, 1933 the son of George and Anna (Becker) Ertmer in Woodbine, Illinois. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1951. He served with the US Army 398 AA Artillery BN, K-55 Air Force Base in Osan Korea from 1953-1955. He was employed for 38 years at Atwood Manufacturing Company as a Tool and Die Maker in Stockton, Illinois. He married Rose Mary Sherrard on May 30, 1961 at the St John’s Catholic Church in Hanover, Illinois.
Delbert enjoyed restoring antique cars including a 1923 Ford Model T truck, a 1936 Ford Touring Sedan and a 1956 Chevrolet Belair Hardtop. He also restored antique furniture, enjoyed woodworking, ballroom dancing, and maintaining his property in Woodbine, Illinois. He was very active in the St Mary’s Church including maintaining the cemetery for 20 years and became a level 4 member of the Knights of Columbus.
Delbert will be dearly missed by his wife Rose; three children James Ertmer of Elizabeth, Illinois, Rosemary (Thomas) Basten of Elizabeth, Illinois, and Donald (Jean Peters) Ertmer of Lodi, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Angela, Thomas James (TJ), Kyle, and Sarah; his brothers Robert Ertmer, Alvin Ertmer, and Marion Ertmer . He is preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Ertmer, and his brothers Eugene Ertmer and Raymond Ertmer.
