Debra K. Schroeder

Debra K. Schroeder, age 66, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Deb was born on April 12, 1960, in Clinton, Iowa, the loving daughter of Roger and Marjorie (Stoll) Nolting. She graduated from Preston High School with the Class of 1978 and went on to attend Iowa State University. It was at a dance at the Preston Town Hall where she met the love of her life, Mark Schroeder. The two were united in marriage on June 6, 1981, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, beginning their 45-year journey together.

For over 30 years, Deb enjoyed a highly successful career as a Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance Underwriter. She worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance, John Deere Insurance, and Sentry Insurance before her retirement in 2018.

Above all else, Deb was an easy-going mom who deeply loved her boys and adored being a grandmother. She was incredibly thoughtful, supportive, and possessed a warm, outgoing spirit. Deb never met a stranger; she loved walking up to anyone just to strike up a conversation and make a new friend. She believed in giving back to her community and volunteered countless hours working hard for the Hospital Auxiliary in DeWitt. She was also a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, where she formerly served as a Church Council Member.

In her free time, Deb was an avid and talented baker. She made magnificent spreads of Christmas cookies and even won baking contests in the area. She had a passion for traveling, with fond memories of a recent trip to Utah and a memorable final big trip to Cancun. A devoted sports enthusiast, Deb was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and loved watching all sports on TV. She especially enjoyed watching golf and had an impressive knack for rattling off the exact stats of the professional golfers.

Deb will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Mark Schroeder of DeWitt; her two sons, Kurt Schroeder (Rae Hansen) of Maquoketa, IA, and Nathan (Gennifer) Schroeder of Maquoketa, IA; her four beloved grandchildren, Kade, Kloey, Calvin, and Elliot; her mother, Marjorie Nolting; two brothers, Daniel (Jill) Nolting of Preston, IA, and Dale (Robyn) Nolting of West Branch, IA; and one sister, Darla (Scott) Striegel of Waterloo, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Nolting; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and a brother-in-law, Doug Schroeder.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be given in Deb's honor to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
