Dean W. Prowant, Jr., age 63, of Savanna, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Cremation will be accorded after the Service and burial of ashes will take place at St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Dean was born February 28, 1946 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Wallace Dean, Sr and Wilma Jean (Kramer) Prowant. He is a graduate of the Savanna High School with the Class of 1964. Dean married Diane “DeDe” Kelsey on March 28, 1964.In the early sixties, Dean worked at the Super Valu as produce manager, then later at the National Tea and Red Fox Store. In 1967, Dean opened the “Roadrunner Den” for teens of the area to hear big name bands. In 1974, he opened the Trading Post in downtown Savanna and later the Hitching Post. In 1986, Dean started Savanna Auto Sales with his wife DeDe. He retired in 2004 and the business is operated by his two sons, Brian and Brandon. Dean had a passion for working and also enjoyed traveling to LasVegas.Dean will be dearly missed by his wife, Diane “DeDe” Prowant of Savanna; two sons, Brian (Vicki) Prowant and Brandon (Christie) Prowant, all of Savanna; two brothers, Danny (Jodie) Prowant of Savanna and Michael (Sandy) Prowant of Byron, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Travis, Dillon and Mitchell Prowant of Savanna, and Kelsey and Keigan Rice of Savanna; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dean is preceded in death by both parents.
