David P. Wilbricht, age 85, of Hanover, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, Illinois. A Scripture Wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., following the visitation at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover.
David was born June 22, 1933 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Lester and Gertrude (Weitz) Wilbricht. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Loras Academy, and graduated in 1955 from Loras College.
David married Sue Sullivan on February 4, 1961 and they resided in Hanover, Illinois most of their married life. David was a teacher, a school counselor and worked in general construction for about 10 years. He was the Director of Catholic Social Services for Jo Daviess County at the end of his working career.
David was the mayor of Hanover from 1974 to 1978, served as an EMT and eventually President of the Hanover Ambulance Association. He was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Rockford in 1988, one year after his son was ordained as a priest in the Congregation of the Holy Cross. David found great joy and happiness in that role.
David is survived by his wife and one son, Reverend Stephen S. Wilbricht, C.S.C. He is also survived by one brother, Richard Wilbricht of Kennewick, Washington; sisters Barbara Bertram of Edina, Minnesota, Patricia (Gerald) McAleece of Aiken, South Carolina, and Kristine (Arthur) Hanlon of Bartlett, Illinois; and one sister-in-law, Joan Fullam Wilbricht of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
