David F. "Whitey" Miller, age 52, of Preston, Iowa, died December 5, 2009 at the Jackson County Regional Hospital, Maquoketa, Iowa. A funeral mass has been rescheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. The visitation has been rescheduled for 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston. A memorial fund has been established.
Whitey was born November 7, 1957, the son of Wesley J. and Fern E. (Meyer) Miller in Maquoketa, Iowa. He attended Preston High School, graduating with the Class of 1976. Whitey married Joyce M. Bormann on April 22, 1978.
Whitey worked for Neumann Construction in Preston. In 1983, he started Whitey’s Masonry and Concrete Inc., and currently operated it with his son, Kyle. He also farmed in the Preston area. Whitey loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and granddaughters. Whitey enjoyed the outdoors, such as hunting for deer and mushrooms. He also enjoyed socializing with friends and making people happy. Additionally, he enjoyed vacationing with his wife and friends.
Whitey is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; a son, Kyle (Ryanne) Miller of Preston; two daughters, Kayla (John) Sieverding of Bellevue, Iowa, and Kalli Miller at home; two granddaughters, Niya Miller and Bel Sieverding; mother, Fern Miller of Preston; three brothers, Delbert (Diane) Miller of Preston, Darwin Miller of Preston and Darlis Miller of Bellevue; and one sister, Darlene (Dave) Liles of Preston. Whitey was preceded in death by his father, Wesley.
