David Allen Weber, Sr.

David Allen Weber, Sr., of Savanna, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on September 20, 2026. Cremation rites have been accorded, and private military honors befitting his service to his country will be held.

David was born May 19, 1945, in St. Charles, Illinois, the son of Philip and Alyce (Norris) Weber, Sr. At just 16 years old, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning a chapter of his life that would remain a great source of honor and pride throughout his years.

David served in Vietnam as a Recon Marine assigned to Company C (Charlie Company), 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, FMF PAC, United States Marine Corps, Republic of Vietnam. His entrusted and dangerous responsibility with Charlie Company was that of a point man. As point man, he carried the shotgun and led the way for those serving alongside him.

David was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1966, shortly after returning from Vietnam. He was a Life Member of the 3rd Recon Association, RVN, United States Marine Corps.

David began his career as an Operating Engineer in the late 1960s, becoming a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, in 1979. He enjoyed a dedicated and hardworking career, retiring in 2005. In 2025, he was awarded his Lifetime Gold Card from Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Fishing was far more than a pastime for David; it was a way of life. An avid bass fisherman, he competed in bass tournaments for more than 30 years, including many held in the Savanna area. He was a lifetime member of B.A.S.S. Much of his social life naturally centered around fishing. Truth be told, everyday conversations with his fishing buddies could go on endlessly as they compared favorite spots, lures, equipment, techniques, and, undoubtedly, stories about their best catches.

On October 15, 1977, David married his loving wife, Marilyn. Together, they built a life filled with companionship and shared adventures, eventually relocating to their home near the Mississippi River in 2002—a place David especially loved.

David also had a passion for hot rods. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on cars and testing what he had built on the drag strip. Whether tinkering with a hot rod or preparing his fishing gear for another day on the water, David enjoyed pursuits that allowed him to work with his hands, challenge himself, and share the experience with others.

David had a deep appreciation for animals and the outdoors. He faithfully fed the birds and other wildlife that visited his property. Watching the eagles along the Mississippi River gave him great pleasure. David's beloved dog, Auli, was his constant companion since 2017.

Underlying David's life was a quiet faith. He read his Bible and said his prayers every night, finding comfort and strength in his faith.

David will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn; sons, David Allen Weber Jr., of South Elgin, IL, and Keith Edward Weber, of Dubuque, IA; granddaughter, Kaela Marlene Weber, of Janesville, WI; sister, Beverly Overbey, of South Elgin; and brother, Michael Weber, of New Port Richey, FL.
