David C. Seger, age 96, of Fulton, Illinois, died on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial gathering will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
David was born on August 18, 1922, the son of Burton W. and Ann E. (Abbott) Seger in Worcester, Massachusetts. David was raised in Rutland, Massachusetts and graduated from Rutland High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 – 1945. David married Joyce Johnson on January 1, 1970 in Sterling, Illinois.
David worked as a Project Superintendent for Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in New Jersey, retiring in June of 1984. David was a steward of the land and enjoyed managing his property and reading about forestry. He also grew Shiitake mushrooms and sold them at local Farmers’ Markets. David was a member of the Northwest Illinois Forestry Association. Most of all, David cherished spending time with his close family and friends.
David will be dearly missed by his wife, Joyce of Fulton; one daughter, Danielle (Andrew) Barnette of Aurora, Illinois; four grandchildren, Whitney (Andrew) Berman, Mary Seger, Nellie Seger, and Jacob Barnette; and two great grandsons, Dax and Brennan. David was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Seger; and four brothers, Wallace, Daniel, Clifford, and Herbert Seger.
