David P. Mooney, 84, formerly of Thomson, IL, and native of Bettendorf, IA, died Sunday evening, February 22, 2015 at Lund Family Hospice Home, Gilbert, AZ. Cremation rites were accorded and interment will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, IL. A private Celebration of Life service will be held later.
David was born June 24, 1930, to David P. Mooney, Sr. and Audrey Bruner Mooney. Following graduation from Davenport High School, David joined the Air Force, serving in communications in Japan and later was sent to Germany for the Berlin Air Lift. Following his service discharge, he apprenticed with Mooney Plumbing, later joining Local # 25 where he worked on the construction of the Cordova nuclear power plant.
David married Edna Curley Sheridan in Cordova, IL, November 19, 1966, and later moved to Thomson, IL. He was involved in developing the Curley family farm into Buck’s Barn, LynnWood Lynks and Estates. In retirement, they moved to Palm Harbor, FL, and later to Phoenix, AZ, to be near family. Due to health problems they moved in 2005 to The Village of Ocotillo, a senior complex in Chandler, AZ.
Survivors include his wife, Edna; a son, D. Matthew (Maureen) Mooney, Bettendorf, IA, and a daughter, Robin Mooney Collins, Appleton, WI; four grandchildren, Melissa Mooney, Los Angeles, CA, Megan (Jeff) Mooney Petro, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Rhyan (Michael) Dailey Dietrick, Clinton, IA, and Casey Urban, Phoenix, AZ; three great-grandchildren, Jasmin, Darrin and Alex of Clinton, IA; a sister, Beverly A. Smith, Bettendorf, IA; two sisters-in law, Lila (Bill DeLost) Ritchie, Sun Lakes, AZ, and Leona (Vernon) Mattie, Thomson, IL; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Patty Tharp Ikuta, Appleton, WI.
David was predeceased by his parents, a brother-in-law, Charles A. Smith, Bettendorf, IA; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Del and Marian Curley, Phoenix, AZ.
