David John McGinty, age 78 of Mount Carroll, Illinois died on March 1, 2013 at his home in Pontiac, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. A second visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Schmaedeke Funeral Home, Orland Park, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at Schmaedeke Funeral Home, Orland Park. Burial will take place in Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park, Willow Springs, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in David’s memory.
David was born on October 2, 1934, the son of Blaine and Dorothy (Etnyre) McGinty in Savanna, Illinois. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School and later attended the University of Illinois, where he earned his Masters of Fisheries Biology. He married Valerie Wood on May 1, 1988 in Indiana.
After graduation, David worked for the Army Corp of Engineers in Indiana and Kentucky. He later accepted a position as the first Biologist hired by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. He managed and cared for several public waterways in Cook County. David worked for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County for over twenty years, before retiring in 1995. David loved traveling between his homes in rural Mount Carroll and Pontiac. David and his wife, Valerie would rotate week to week and live in both homes. David also loved traveling to Alaska and Nova Scotia, Canada with his wife, Valerie.
David will dearly missed by his wife, Valerie of Pontiac; two sons, Sean (Paula) McGinty of Moorpark, California and Brendan McGinty of Philo, Illinois; one daughter, Megan McGinty of Urbana, Illinois; one step-daughter, Kimberly (Craig) Gardner of Ransom, Illinois; two grandsons, Jake and Zack McGinty and one step-grandson, John Gardner. David was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Darby Hall
