David E. McCormick, 66, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Hanover, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Sept 10, 2019. He was doing what he loved – playing a round of golf.
Visitation will be at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 19, 2019. A second visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am, Friday, September 20, 2019 at the funeral home, with procession to the Church to follow. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover at 10:30 am on Friday September 20, 2019. Reverend Dennis Morrissy will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
David was born July 26, 1953 in Savanna, the son of Francis and Helen (Hoertz) McCormick. David graduated from Hanover High School and Loras College. He was very athletic in school - playing football and excelling at basketball and golf. After college, he worked in administration at an electric utility. Following that he joined the golf industry at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena. He relocated from the Hanover area to Sarasota, FL and worked in several aspects of the golf business including retail, instruction, and golf operations.
David enjoyed playing golf as well as discussing golf, all sports, and stock market investments with his many friends and with anyone he met. He was an enthusiastic promoter of the game of golf and helped to make it more enjoyable for many.
Survivors include his brother Gary (Carol) McCormick of Coal Valley, IL and sister Mary Jo Metz of Evanston, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family thanks his close friends in Florida – Sonny Riazzi and Jerry Robinett for their assistance coordinating numerous activities following his passing They would also thank his friends Jimmy Vollenweider and Mike Voss for their support and coordination of the Celebration of Life event held in Sarasota.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends in the Hanover and Sarasota areas. Included is Sonny’s dog Maggie who loved Dave beyond imagination.
