David Allen McColley loved the feeling of being free in the sky in his ultralight plane and power parachute. On October 29, 2014, he passed away at the age of 57 at the Porter Regional Hospital in Portage, Indiana. A memorial service to share memories and reminisce at the VFW in Savanna, Illinois from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2014.
David was born December 10, 1956 in Savanna, the son of John E. and Marna F. (Tropp) McColley. He attended Savanna High School. Dave worked for Attwoods in Mt. Carroll, Illinois and later drove truck for Midwest Trucking and Making it Rite Trucking. David had a passion for flying everything he could, including his many remote controlled hobby planes. He enjoyed riding motorbikes and life and everything it offered. Most of all he cherished coffee time with family and friends.
David will be dearly missed by his girlfriend of fifteen years, Kelly Monks; a daughter, Amy (Lance) Clark of East Moline, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ashley and Landon; two step-sons, Toni and Eric Gamblin both of Valparaiso, Indiana; two sisters, Mona (Gary) Herberger of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jill (Hank) Story of Lena, Illinois; four brothers, Ed (Kim) McColley of Savanna, Mark (Jenny) McColley of Portage, Indiana, Bill McColley of Sabula, Iowa, Matt (Mary) McColley of Sabula, Iowa. David is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
