David was born April 3, 1959, in Clinton, Iowa to Gerald “Jerry” and Judith (Reed) Kness. Growing up, and attending school, in Hanover, Illinois, David developed a passion for football. As a tough nosed lineman, and loved every minute of it. After graduating from Hanover High School with the class of 1977, David went to work in the family business, driving trucks for Kness Trucking in Chadwick. There, David grew up quickly, with a strong work ethic that he would one day pass on to his two sons. On August 26, 1984, David married Roxanne Johnson at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two celebrated over 34 years of marriage.
In 2002, after his father’s passing, David began driving trucks for ADM, doing so until his health no longer allowed. He loved the open road, and the sights and sense of exploration that his career brought him. His work hauling cattle and hogs took him across the country, to places such as Detroit, Montana, Alabama, and his favorite spot; Virginia Beach. When he wasn’t hard at work providing for his family, David enjoyed tinkering in his garage, with anything he could get his hands on, and later in life, spending time with his beloved grandchildren. David was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chadwick, and a former member of the Midwest Trucking Association.
David will be dearly missed by his wife Roxanne, of Clinton; his two sons, Ryan Lambert, of Freeport, Illinois and Adam (Cassie) Kness, of Miles, Iowa; three grandchildren, Mason Lambert, Brayden Kness, and Blakleigh Kness; two brothers, Steve Kness and Scott Kness; and several nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by both parents and his three year-old son, Jacob (1994).
