David Fulton, age 68, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa after a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, with Full Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Memorials may be given for the Hanover VFW Club. David was born December 13, 1950, the son of Ralph and Doris (Bearsley) Fulton in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Hanover High School, graduating with the Class of 1969. David proudly served his country from 1969-72 as a Boatswain’s Mate in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On July 6, 1974, David married Susan Cousins in Scales Mound, Illinois. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage and raised two children.
David worked as a firefighter for the Rock Island Arsenal after transferring from the Savanna Army Depot in 1996, until his retirement in 2012. During winter he would work at Chestnut Mountain Resort, and Eagle Ridge South Golf Course in summer. He also worked as a butcher at Eighman’s Grocery in Elizabeth and Bill’s Royal Blue in Hanover. David was a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover-Elizabeth VFW, Hanover Volunteer Fire Department and the Hanover American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with friends and family. He was an avid River Ridge Wildcats and Minnesota Vikings fan.
David will be dearly missed by his wife, Susan; two children, Becky (Mark) Brown of Elizabeth, and Bryan (Vicky) Fulton of Galena, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Stephanie) Brown, Nick (Jen) Brown, Tarin (Matt) Grube, Nathan Brown, Andrew Brown, and Macey and Declan Fulton; four brothers, Gary Fulton of Warren, Illinois, Mark Fulton of Idaho, Donnie (Anita) Fulton of Texas, Kevin (Dee Dee) Fulton of Texas; three sisters, Patty Kurth of Hanover, Mary Jo (Don) Olsen of Hanover, and Debbi Cassidy of Belton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Doris; a sister, Ruth Breckenridge; a brother, Jeff Fulton; and his mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Lyle Ann Cousins.
