David "Bubby" Carl Young

David “Bubby” Carl Young, age 77, of Thomson, Illinois, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m Monday, February 11, at Thomson United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Judd officiating. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois with Military Honors accorded by the Thomson American Legion Post #1025. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in David’s name.
David was born March 5, 1930 in Galena, Illinois, the son of Henry and Annabelle (Schultz) Young. He was a 1949 graduate of the Thomson High School. David married Marilyn St. Clair on September 26, 1954 in Clinton, Iowa. Marilyn died April 17, 1995.
David worked in print advertising for the Clinton Herald Newspaper, Clinton, Iowa for forty years. David enjoyed golfing, playing fast pitch softball for Melon Tossers of Thomson, coaching baseball for many years in Thomson from Pee Wee to Pony League. He bowled in Clinton for over thirty years at the Odeon Club. He was inducted in the Northwest Illinois All-Sports Hall of Fame. He served on Thomson Community Fund Board, and the Zoning Board. David was also a former volunteer fireman for the Village of Thomson.
David is survived by one son, Dave (Cindy) of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter, Cindy (Mac) McWorthy of Thomson; four grandchildren, Melissa (Shannon) Straka, Mandy McWorthy, Cassandra Young, and Adam Young; one great-grandchild, William Straka; a brother, Clarence (Andi) Young of Anaheim, California; a sister, Lorraine Eissens of Thomson; three step-brothers Ron “Bud” (Rita) Bull and Eugene (Dee) Bull of Savanna, Illinois, and Don (Ann) Bull of New York. David is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; two brothers, Chuck and Henry Young; and a brother in-law, Charles Eissens.
