Darlys A. (Rittmer) Hutten, 70, of McAlester, OK, formerly Sabula, IA, departed this Earth to her heavenly home on November 24, 2023. Darlys was born on January 18, 1953, to Ernest and Rose (Johnson) Rittmer. She graduated from Sabula High School and went on to Secretarial college, where she learned shorthand and excelled at typing over 90 words per minute. She started her career at the Savanna Army Depot Activity in Savanna, IL and was transferred to the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, in McAlester, OK. After 32 years of service, Darlys retired from the Defense Ammunition Center. Upon retirement, she went on to work in the imaging department at McAlester Regional Health Center. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Kiamichi and Piece Makers Quilt Guilds.
Darlys was happily married to her devoted husband John Joseph Hutten on September 22, 1984. They had two children together, Angela Jo (Hutten) Opperman and Joseph William Hutten. Darlys’ pride and joy were her children. She was a proud grandmother and loved to show off her grandchildren. Darlys always made birthdays and holidays special. Although she will be missed, we will continue to honor her birthday and holiday traditions.
Darlys is survived by her husband of 39 years, John Hutten and her two children, Angela and Joey. As well as her brothers, Lester and Dave Rittmer. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Juleen Kramer; and brother, Darrell Rittmer.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation from 3-6pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at her hometown church, Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, IA. Services will be at Calvary Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula. Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Rittmer, Derek Nichols, Terry Rittmer, Curtis Koch, Travis Woodhurst, and Dylan Rittmer.
