Darlene J. Streicher, age 88 of rural Mt. Carroll, passed away September 19, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2022, at the First Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois with visitation held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Oakhill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A luncheon will follow at the Savanna Moose Lodge where friends are invited. Darlene was born November 30, 1933 on the family farm near Mt. Carroll, the daughter of Gustave and Lillian (Dale) Morhardt. She is a 1952 graduate of the Mt. Carroll High School. On September 27,1953 Darlene married Glen “Skeets” Streicher at the First Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. They raised three children, Glenda, Teresa, and Rodney, and celebrated 34 years of marriage before Skeet’s passing on April 2, 1988. As a young woman in 1951, Darlene enjoyed square dancing and she and Skeet both danced in a group at the Illinois State Fair along with on the radio.
Darlene not only helped her husband on the family farm, but she also worked for more than 20 years at Atwood/Dura Automotive in Mt. Carroll. Darlene was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member of many organizations including the Moose Lodge in Savanna, the Royal Youth Square Dancing Group, the Illinois Grange Club and bowling leagues in Mt. Carroll and Stockton.
Darlene enjoyed sewing, canning, and gardening. She loved listening to country music especially “Willie’s Roadhouse” and “Mississippi Man”. She was an avid bird watcher. Most of all, Darlene loved the time spent with family and friends, particularly at her annual “4th of July party,” where everyone enjoyed her favorite, strawberry margaritas.
Darlene is survived by her children, Glenda Adams of Organgeville, IL, Teresa Raab of Stockton and Rodney (Lindsay) Streicher of Milledgville; 8 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her parents; one sister, Evelyn Morhardt; and two brothers and their wives, Donald (Marge) Morhardt and Darwin (Darlene) Morhardt; sister-in-law, Shirley Streicher; brothers-in-law, Delmar Streicher, Butch Streicher and Donnie Streicher.
