Darlene Marie Schleuning, age 66, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 15 at Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, with Reverend Dave Davies officiating. Burial will be in the Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. A memorial fund has been established in Darlene’s name.
Darlene was born December 7, 1939 in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Traum) Kuhse. She attended schools in Milledgeville and Chadwick. Darlene married Richard Schleuning September 11, 1959.
She raised children with her husband, and worked eighteen years for the Chadwick School Disrtrict, driving bus and working in the kitchen. Darlene was a co-founder and very involved in the Carroll County Girls Softball Association. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Darlene enjoyed cooking, basket-weaving and craftwork. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick.
Darlene will be deeply missed by her husband, Richard Schleuning, Sr. of Chadwick; three daughters, Tina Marie Wienk of Freeport, Joy Bull of Mt. Carroll, Illinois and Dawn (Ron) Hastings of Savanna, Illinois; her son, Rich (Susie) Schleuning, Jr.; seven grandchildren, James, Mindy and Kristy Allen, Paul and Melissa Schleuning and Caleb and Adam Hastings; two great grandchildren, Destiny Hottinger and Jesse Morrison; a brother, Owen Kuhse of Stockton, Illinois; and a sister, JoAnn Ross of Savanna. Darlene is preceded in death by her son, Paul; grandson, William; both parents; and son in-law, Donnie Bull. Darlene’s family appreciates the care of the nursing staff at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
