Darlene Roseanna Ritenour

Darlene Roseanna (Sparks) Ritenour passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Darlene was born March 26, 1936, the daughter of Harlan and Anna (Buckley) Sparks.
She grew up in the Charlotte, Iowa area. One of Darlene's favorite memories growing up was playing on the girls basketball team in high school. Following graduation, she moved to Clinton, Iowa, and went to work in the local garment factory.
Darlene was united in marriage to Jerome Ritenour on October 5, 1957. To this union, six children were born, Cindy, Kevin, Katherine "Kathy”, Karen, Thomas "Tom", and Steven. She enjoyed working at the Indian Head Supper Club, Chit Chat, VFW and being a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge.
For those that remember Darlene, she was full of life and spirit. One of her favorite hobbies was bowling, both in the women’s and mixed leagues. She and Jerome enjoyed taking weekend bowling trips with close friends. The kids have many great memories of family vacation trips to Minnesota and Kentucky in the station wagon. Darlene loved family gatherings and the comfort of her pet cats. She was loved by everyone and was a second mom to many of her children’s friends and neighborhood kids.
Darlene is survived by her children, Kevin (Diane) Ritenour, Katherine "Kathy" (Lars) Colgan, Karen Marburger, Thomas " Tom" (Jenifer) Ritenour, and Steven (Brenda) Ritenour; one step-daughter, Linda (David) Johnson; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Alverda "Cookie" Garlough, nephew Gene Sparks, and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerome, daughter Cindy Peak, brothers Raymond and Maynard Sparks, son-in-law Bobby Marburger, and brother-in-law Lynn Garlough.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Elvira Cemetery in Elvira, Iowa. Memorial may be made to the Heartland Pet Welfare Inc. in Savanna.
