Darlene H. Reifsteck, age 73, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at home surrounded by her family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service may be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Darlene’s memory.
Darlene was born August 13, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Thaddeus and Pauline (Maleshko) Heckler. She attended Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and graduated with the Class of 1961. On July 23, 1965, Darlene married Carl Reifsteck in Savanna, Illinois.
Darlene worked as an administrative assistant at the Savanna Army Depot for 28 years before retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Hanover United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, sewing, gardening, and reading. Most of all, she valued the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Darlene will be dearly missed by her husband, Carl of Elizabeth; four children, Clyde “Skip” (Sonja) Reifsteck of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeff (Pam) Reifsteck of Batesville, Arkansas, Karl (Julie) Reifsteck of South Beloit, Illinois, and Kristine Reifsteck-Banet of Wheeling, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, Rachel Kobischka, Rebecca Reifsteck, Evan (Rachael) Reifsteck, Hunter Maclaurin, Jordan Reifsteck, Ryan Reifsteck, Keifer Hatcher, Dylan Hatcher, Kaitlyn Reifsteck, Madalyn Reifsteck, Jacalyn Reifsteck, Adrienne Clark, Aaron Clark, Miranda Koester, and Adam Koester; nine great-grandchildren, Ty, Aiden, Grace, Pyper, Ariella, Jocelyn, Maggie, Jakson, and Maddison; and a close family friend, Kim Reifsteck.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Thaddeus and Pauline Heckler; foster parents, Homer and Bernice Grey; two sisters, Peggy Wendling and Patricia Schubert; and four brothers, Theodore Heckler, Robert Heckler, James Heckler, and Ed Willard.
