Danny J. “Buddy” Bryant, age 69, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at his home. Inurnment will take place with full military rites at later date at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Danny was born Arthur Ralph Ragan, June 2, 1943, in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Ralph Scott and Mary Frances (Cox) Ragan. Upon the death of his mother on June 2, 1943, four hours after his birth, the care and custody was given to Malinda Bryant, his grandmother. He was adopted by his half-uncle and wife, Kenneth P. and Jessie L. (Phialmlee) Markward on August 6, 1943 changing his name to Danny Joe Markward. His adoptive parents changed their names from Markward to Bryant on October 18, 1955, decreeing his name to Danny Joe Bryant.
He attended Center Hill School and Mount Carroll High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Danny married Debbie Anson . He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Traders. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Danny is survived by one daughter, Teana Bryant of New Madison, Ohio; two granddaughters; one brother, Donny Klemmer, of Rock Island; three sisters, Betty (Rollin) Heller of Hooppole, Linda Rogers of Rockford, and Carol Hempt-Fitch of Bettendorf, Iowa, and special friends, Larry and Jeannie Messmer of Savanna.
Dany was preceded in death by both sets of parents, one brother, Charles H. Sundeen and two sisters, Mary Jane Coverdill, and Patsy Lind.
