Daniel Olson, 63, of Tower Hill, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield following an illness. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. in Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, IL followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. in Center Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, IL. Daniel was born September 16, 1947 the son of Oscar George & Martha Lee Cooley Olson in Galesburg, IL. , Daniel graduated from Polo Community High School and in 1969 earned a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Manchester College, Manchester, IN. Daniel took select classes in process metallurgy from Dr. Keith Brenacombe of the University of Columbia. He also took classes in 6 sigma training and methodology at Invensys Corporation.
Daniel began his career as chief chemist/metallurgist at Northwest Steel & Wire in Sterling, IL. He was the quality manager for H.N. Steel in Houston; a chief engineer at GSI in Assumption, IL; and manager of quality assurance for Hobbs in Spring Valley, IL. He was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and a highly skilled fisherman. He also proudly owned a Knights of Columbus sword that he traded a WWII helmet for when he was a young boy.
Daniel Olson and Harriett Schyvincht were united in marriage on August 28, 1971 in Mt. Carroll, IL.
He is survived by his wife: Harriett Olson, Tower Hill, IL; son: Paul Olson, Tower Hill, IL; 3 grandchildren: Shelby Olson, Robinson, IL; Aurora Olson and Tanner Olson, Taylor Spring, IL; sister: Jane Olson, Chicago, IL; and brother: Curt Olson, Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents & son, Keith Olson of Pana, IL on May 10, 2009.
